I don’t want to sound like someone who is not happy with any kind of service they get but you can imagine my frustration once you read the post.

I’ve been using Asianet Broadband from last one year now, an unlimited connection which shares the line with Asianet Cable (TV/Set Top Box). I was happy with it till Jan 2008 end. If I recall it correctly, it was Jan 30, when a main cable broke in the Mediterranean and many (if not all) of the country’s internet was affected. Before knowing about the ’cause I had called them up, at first which I thought was their silly excuse. But after the day, I did not call ‘em as I knew the reason. The connection was not up for around 4-5 days although all major providers like Indicom had restored their services within 2 days. When the connection started working, it was extremely slow, but I still didn’t bother to call thinking of it as an after effect or something. It was back up on full speed after 2-3 days.

I’m watching Discovery Channel probably since I started watching TV. I like their shows, especially their commentary, I like the way their commentary makes me stick on to TV. But since I moved to TVM , I wasn’t getting much time to watch TV’s and with the set-top box, browsing through so many good channels and leaving behind the movies was hard . But I many times do watch Discovery channel (at least I try to).
But the thing is, with the two voice overs you can barely understand anything. Yes, when they have a show on air, they have both English and Hindi voice-overs. Its really annoying when you have an interesting show going on. I made a small video on my cell phone of it, have a look.

Yesterday I went for my exam at kannur and I happened to meet my friend, Sandeep who is working as a freelancer for the “Madhyamam” newspaper. Now, he showed me his new Nikon D40 dSLR camera and of course its cool features .. you guessed it, I fell for it !
As soon as I got home, I started googling for the d40 and came to know about D80 which is a better package, but for professionals. The Cnet guide to SLR cam, suggests D40x as its a very nice first dSLR. The cheapest price I found was on ebay at 26k INR . So, if anyone got a good deal for me, buzz me

From three months I am looking for a decent host for sr-ultimate.com and yet nothing ! I can’t ask in any webmaster forum or else my message box will be filled with offers. I tried asking few people in my messenger lists but either they don’t know anything about hosting or they have a reseller account which of course I don’t want. So how about someone suggest me some really good host ?

My friend Srijit, who is hosting sr-ultimate.com for the time being, referred Bluehost, Site5 & Dreamhost. Now from the three, Dreamhost appealed to me most, because of its excellent support, good reputation and above all, the low pricing.

My requirements

• Above CPU%:- 6.61 , Average MEM%:- 1.90. I really don’t know how to measure it but that was the usage info given to me, when I was asked to move from ResellerZoom.
• 6-10GB of monthly Bandwidth
• 1 GB of Web Space.
• All the basic stuffs a good host has, mainly which I need are GD lib with freetype, PHP 5 ?
• Ruby on Rails is great, as I am learning it
• Pricing like Dremahost, Site5 ^_*

Any “Decent” reviews are appreciated .

This if for webmaster/developers/domainers and everyone who are into “Web” creation generally. You might have heard of the very popular forum “Digital Point Forums”, which I think is best for selling & buying services. You get to learn a lot, the thing I liked most about it was that, it was more like an “open source” forum. Even though I was not using their revenue sharing program (where you can put your own ads on Digital Point), I appreciated the motive. Also, you get a new thread every now and then, so you are never bored.

Now recently I changed my email address (@yahoo one) registered with them and changed it (to @gmail one) . After that I instantly received a mail to activate my new mail ID, which of course I did “Instantly” . After activating I got a message that “I am in a moderation que”
And now I can’t access my PM (message box) at Digital Point or post in any thread. My Profile don’t show up.
Whenever I visit these pages I get a message that “You must confirm your email address before you can use …..“.

I used the “Contact Us” form in the forum footer thrice but no reply. I tried contacting the mods but ..
- I don’t know who the moderators are
- I can’t use your PM to send them message.

Now it clearly states in Digital Point Rules that one should have only one ID, I understand why. But what do I do to contact a mod or admin there ? I waited and ultimately ended up creating a ID just to post this thread, which states my position. Now, I did not get any response from the admin or mods in the thread but I did receive 6 messages from members 5 out of which said that creating this new ID will get me banned. WT* ! Well yes this one guy tried to help me out but I tried changing my email ID back at his suggestion but nothing.

So….

If you have an ID at Digital Point forums then try not to change your email ID. There is no easy way out.

Edit: Today, August 14`th, after one month and 2 days, my ID got activated .

What do you do when your ISP is down for a day.? You go to the cafe. Exactly what I did. I visited one of the 2 Sify Internet Cafe’ here in Kannur. My first impression - It Sucks ! As I was entering, the guy standing outside asked me to remove my shoes :/ . Wht the !
I know its part of Indian culture and I repect it but, in a Net Cafe ?

The guy who manages the place is after me for taking a membership, telling me all the crap about its advantages. Then after all I got a system, I asked him if he had firefox, which ofcourse he had never heard of . I asked him if I can install it, he agreed with a weird face as if I am going to install some spyware.

Nevermind that, the worst part was the ADVERTISMENT. As you start you are greeted with an ad window, close it, enter a website url and another advertisment window pops up from nowhere. I don’t think google.com has any pop ups, atleast not for the search service. Oh yeah .. there is a small advertisment in upper right corner of screen which covers around 4% of 15″ screen. I asked the guy if I can close this, which he proudly described that its not his problem as its default from Sify.
