Travelogue : The Kerala-Bangalore drive and the minor accident
Wanted to go to Bangalore for some work and thought, why not drive up there ? The only problem I could see was the lack of a willing friend from my place so I called an old friend Sandeep, he was excited from the time I told him the news. So, here is the plan we thought of, First I reach Kannur and then head for Bangalore after picking him up.
Alanallur - Perinthalmanna - Kozhikode (Calicut) - Kannur - Irriti - Viraranjendrepet - Hunsur - Mysore - Mandya - Bangalore (Calculated : 410KM)
I started at 1:00 in the morning from Alanallur and reached Kannur by 4:15 AM. I picked him up and then my smart friend tells me the road through Viraranjendrepet was closed months back, Great! So we headed to Irriti, the road was bad from Kannur to Irriti and but was better after that for 1 hour, then to manadavadi. Its a scenic view but as it was around 5 am, it was still dark so we could not enjoy much. The funny part was I was still not feeling sleepy, considering the fact that I hadn’t slept the day before. Though the mountain road was fun to drive without any traffic. We stopped Manadavadi for a cup of tea at 6.30am, and the guy tells me usually the small vehicles avoid this way at night as wild elephants do roam there at the time. Hmm, lucky us.
The really long Drive : TVM-Pune-Mumbai
The start was rather unexpected - My aunt woke me up at 8:30 on 3`rd morning and suggested that we go Pune - and I said “fine ! Lets go” . I’m not lying, I didn’t realize what I took up until we reached Manglore :/ .
As much I enjoyed the drive, there was this thing bothering me. The moment we reached Kasargod (8pm approx.) I realized that I was having rather comfortable drive, which is unusual for me as I am used to have my purse in my back pocket which makes me a bit uncomfortable . Being a new car there wasn’t the book holder below the wheel, as in my car. So I came to a sad realization that I had lost my wallet somewhere. Still, I drove Pune where I got my purse back (:| , got stuck between the seat) . In between I had blocked all my Credit & Debit cards
.
Beauty
Karnataka is really pretty place, though you’ll find no one for miles ‘n miles . The beauty really gives you a pleasant feeling. At a place an hour after Udupi we used to come across a river every few kilometer. At Gokarna there was this lovely scenery of a mile long backwaters on right side and sea on the left side, more like we are driving in the middle of water. The Gov. can surely make some bucks out tourism ;).
But I should say North and South Karnataka heavily differ in terms of everything you see. Southern karnataka is more greenish compared to its northern part which feels deserted. You can find dozens of vehicles especially trucks overturned or hit somewhere.
Expressway
This was my first time on a express highway. - I loved it ! A small part of the Golden Quadrilateral but marvelous drive. Reached Hubli - Pune in just 10 hours ! Why don’t we have expressways everywhere ?
At the top speed 150/km at Pune-Mumbai expressway, it didn’t seem like I was anything above 80 ! I wish I had a better car, at least mine
.
Here are some Pics I took from my old 6600, unfortunately I forgot my Cam :/ . Enjoy !
