.MobileBurn Reports, French (Soon the world) Orange users can enjoy the power 500 MB SIM card. That is around 8000 times the normal ones. It is going to be launched by world popular Orange & card-based solutions provider Oberthur Card Systems.
The long time stalwart of the GSM mobile industry, the SIM card, is set to get an overhaul by European operator Orange and card-based solutions provider Oberthur Card Systems.
The new SIM (subscriber identity module) card, initially only available in France with the LG U8210 mobile phone, will contain 512MB of storage space, about 8000 times the current standard of 64KB. This increase in storage space can be used to store not only text messages and phone numbers, but also media files, games, and applications.
While specifics are not yet available, Orange has said that the new SIM card will be compatible with DRM solutions, allowing users to transfer licenses for purchased music to other handsets simply by moving the card over to the new handset.
The new SIM card, inventively called MegaSIM, is based on a platform produced by M-Systems, a flash storage developer that works with small form factor technologies.
