Rediff getting Big
Few days back my mom showed me an article in the news paper regarding someone who was staying about a Kilometer from my house. Guess what ? The person was Ajit Balakrishnan, Chairman and C.E.O www.rediff.com. He was in kannur for something regarding an increase IT fields here. No wonder I was seeing so many luxury cars around here
. Hmm.. I so wanted to meet the big guy.
As you might have seen on TV Rediff has launched the new rediffmail. It combines many user friendly features from outlook Express and POP mail service and incorporate them in web mail for providing higher benifits, as per Manish Agarwal. Manish, vice president for marketing claimed that Rediffmail was the first in the country to launch the new bouquet for its users. ( I think Mr. Manish does not surf the web that much
)
As per him Yahoo! was in the process of testing it and MSN did not possess such features (Hello! heard of Live ?). But there are few features that I appreciate like the ability to write mail’s in 11 indian language, including the four South Indian languages.
However, I did not like the tactics used to advertise the renewed service, ‘Lightning fast web mail service‘ .
- Two guys, One wearing Rediffmail T-shirt and other one with HooHaa! written, which ofcourse anyone can make out
. Now both of them starts with 2 PC’s to open their mail ID’s. While the Reiffmail guy has read, replied and saved the mail, the Hoohaa! guy is still waiting for the mail page to open. Yeah … right!
The reffered Yahoo!, had started the new interface with AJAX long before Rediff did. Though in beta and available for the US. We can get the AJAXy Yahoo! Mail with few modification in the Yahoo! profile
. However I can’t blame everything on rediff, as Yahoo! should have started the service internationally, atleast in beta as it hardly contains few errors right now.
Rediff company also tied up with mobile operators to provide three free SMS’s per day to ts users. Every reply generated to the SMS will earn three more free SMS’s.According to Agarwal, the online industry isgrowing at 25 persent per annum with NASSCOM predicting that India will have a larger consumer base than the US and UK in another 4-5 years. Rediff, which generated revenue of 18.7 million US$ in the last fiscal, posted a growth of 48 percent over the previous year. ![]()

What your saying is tru, but rediff just stated that they are the first one to officially release it to the public.
Though, I too did not like the advertisement :/ .

Nice to meet a Kannur based blogger. I thought there was a mostly defunt Technology Park in Kannur too. So any private investment would be for the good of the industry.
I have not seen the Rediff ads, but from what you describe it is very similar to the new Macintosh ads being aired in US. Instead of wearing T-shirts, the guys play the computers instead and show how Macs are pretty cool when it comes to doing what you want without much fuss.

I agree with the above terms regarding rediff, but thats usually done by any other company. See Pepsi and Coke or their other products.
I can\’t say that they are doing anything wrong. Perhaps because I am a fan of rediff from last 4 years.
