Asianet Dataline Broadband loosing its charm
I don’t want to sound like someone who is not happy with any kind of service they get but you can imagine my frustration once you read the post.
I’ve been using Asianet Broadband from last one year now, an unlimited connection which shares the line with Asianet Cable (TV/Set Top Box). I was happy with it till Jan 2008 end. If I recall it correctly, it was Jan 30, when a main cable broke in the Mediterranean and many (if not all) of the country’s internet was affected. Before knowing about the ’cause I had called them up, at first which I thought was their silly excuse. But after the day, I did not call ‘em as I knew the reason. The connection was not up for around 4-5 days although all major providers like Indicom had restored their services within 2 days. When the connection started working, it was extremely slow, but I still didn’t bother to call thinking of it as an after effect or something. It was back up on full speed after 2-3 days.
But that does not end there, Read more…
Stupid Discover Channel Voice over
I’m watching Discovery Channel probably since I started watching TV. I like their shows, especially their commentary, I like the way their commentary makes me stick on to TV. But since I moved to TVM , I wasn’t getting much time to watch TV’s and with the set-top box, browsing through so many good channels and leaving behind the movies was hard
. But I many times do watch Discovery channel (at least I try to).
But the thing is, with the two voice overs you can barely understand anything. Yes, when they have a show on air, they have both English and Hindi voice-overs. Its really annoying when you have an interesting show going on. I made a small video on my cell phone of it, have a look.
Macbook Air is here in India
You might have heard of the (latest) World’s Thinnest Notebook - The Macbook Air. If not, It is a super cool, super light and above all .. a super mac - “Leopard” inside it. If you have a look at this cute ad, you can imagine how thin it is.
MacBook Air is nearly as thin as your index finger. One of the best features in it is the multitouch just like in the iPhone. You can pinch, swipe, or rotate to zoom in on text, advance through a photo album, or adjust an image.
Unfortuantely there is no ethernet port, which you might find hard, as Indian cities is not Wifi’ed enough, But you can always buy an Ethernet to USB port
. No FireWire, and optical drive, or enough graphics power to power a 30 inch Display (but you can hook it up on 21/23″ Display.) Apple claims Air to have a battery backup of upto 5 hours !
Suggested Retail Price is Rs 96,100 /- A bit more than Macbook Pro

Nikon D40/80, Hmm
Yesterday I went for my exam at kannur and I happened to meet my friend, Sandeep who is working as a freelancer for the “Madhyamam” newspaper. Now, he showed me his new Nikon D40 dSLR camera and of course its cool features .. you guessed it, I fell for it ! ![]()
As soon as I got home, I started googling for the d40 and came to know about D80 which is a better package, but for professionals. The Cnet guide to SLR cam, suggests D40x as its a very nice first dSLR. The cheapest price I found was on ebay at 26k INR . So, if anyone got a good deal for me, buzz me
Psst: My Sony Handycam (DCR-TRV285E) is for sale, any takers ?
Paypal now supports Indian Bank Account : Good for me
A good news came in my mail from the great “Paypal” after a long time that Paypal now supports Indian Bank accounts. Now, I was not happy with Paypal for some reasons, like me loosing money to someone ’cause I did not have the ‘Tracking code’ of the service I did and Paypal charging 1 USD less that what the actual market price is (Having tough time already). But I think this good news is nice enough to forget that. I had immediately added my HDFC bank’s account details and within 2 days, I had the money in my account for nil transfer fee
. I wish they had this offer sometime sooner, I could have saved few thousands. Anyway, “Better late than never” !
There is no charge to withdrawal amounts over INR 7000 but a small INR 500 for the withdrawals below 7K.
