Harmful and stupid beliefs

I’ve heard my friends, most of the athiest ones, tell tales about how they have said something logical to their religious friends and how they got offended and defriended/unfollowed my friends. But this is the first time for me. It was really odd to say the least. I usually try not to offend anyone and try to refrain from an argument unless its targeted directly towards me or its a public debate.

Anyways, I recently shared an article about “India’s 10 Dumbest Ideas” on my Facebook wall. I did know that it contained a reference to “Satya Sai Baba” being a fraud. Seven hours down, my friend “S” defriends me. I knew what was happening, she being a follower of him, only saw the point towards the baba and was offended by it. I asked her on twitter if it was the article, to which she calmly replied “Yes. I’d not part with such a good friend like u for any other reason. Baba is father, mother and guru to me. Sorry”. I respect her for telling me that nicely.

But what annoys me about the whole belief system is that, they are not ready to look into what others views are. The logic, documentaries, real life people, all this doesn’t matter to the one who believes in these foolishness. They are not up for a logical discussion.

People here are brought up in such a way. They are told from early age that there can people with super natural powers and they connect with a super natural being and if you kiss their butts you will be taken to heaven and what not. Its so deep within them that even if someone provides a logical argument, they would choose to part ways from that person instead of looking at the logic he has to offer. And its not just that person, it spreads to others like a disease.

Recently I came across this article on reddit.com

I’m not sure what exactly the guy said, but whatever it may be, he shouldn’t be jailed for it. Apparently,The Freedom of expression article claims an exception that the govt has right to take action against speech which MAY harm the public order and harmony.

By that law, if I think know something is just a fantasy and the fantasy has many followers then I don’t have the right to say that publicly as I might offend the followers. :|
