At last ! I own MacBook Pro
Yup! Thats right, after a long search I finally ended up on this great piece of art from Apple ! My MacBook Pro, my baby ! I love it . You can’t possibly find anything to hate in it. Everything is just so cool.
I do think its a bit heavy for its size but who cares when it offers such a wonderful configuration.
Experience
- Connected to internet while traveling in just 5 mins, it recognized my T610 (also somehow got the exact T610 icon
) via bluetooth ! Opening my mail box was a piece of cake. - Installing windows with bootcamp was another easy task. Create a Partition > Install windows > Done ! But of course windows did give me a bit of trouble installing sound drivers. Now I am thinking of moving to parallels.
Features
- Well if you are shifting from windows to mac everything seems to be cool. Still to start with .. PhotoBooth is something which attracts everyones attention. You can take decent quality images from from the small iSight camera. The interesting part is the ability to create funny images with different frames !
- Ambient Light / Motion - MBP has a Ambient light and sudden motion sensors. If you turn of the rooms light i.e the room gets darker then the keyboard automatically glows with ambilight, of which we can control the brightness. The sensors also lower the screen brightness. Too Cool !
- MagSafe - Not a great deal but the feature is practical.
- Double Click - Yes, Unlike previous versions of mac, in macbook pro you can do the right click by touching 2 fingers together in the trackpad.
- Out of the Box - Open the box > get started . no drivers, no installations, no mess, complete satisfaction !
- Speech - You can assign a voice and keyboard shortcut and can have any text read. i.e Select a a paragraph from a ebook and press the shortcut you have asigned and the lady/person’s voice will read the paragraph to you.
- Exposé - You can assign a function to each corner of the screen, which when hovered with curser will activate the function.
- iCal - This application is just what I needed, a simple calender which tells you the date and has alarm or repeat feature.
- Spotlight - A quick search. A must have !
- iMovie HD - A wonderful Movie Maker which has different professional themes.

1.1
They were giving me the core duo (512 MB) for 1.01 but I think I made a better choice going for Core 2 Duo.
It sure is cool ! You can run Windows, Mac and linux at one time ! whats cooler than that ?

Have you had any problems with battery???
Am planning to get one after the new year.
January 1st, 2007 at 6:03 pm
No problems yet. Its been a week since I bought this and yesterday I calibrated it.
While draining the battery with normal use, low brightness, it lasted for around 3 hours. I ran bluetooth for 30 mins while working on iTunes(external speakers), Opera and Firefox and copied a CD.
I think its pretty decent time. The Battery has done 10 cycles till now.

Congrats dude. Didn’t get time to check your blog.
Once you get into the Mac game, there’s no escaping it. I bet you will be hooked on to your MBP late night on the 9th of january, biting your nails in anticipation as Mr. Steve unveils new goodies…eh?

Thanks Goobi

Raju … Well, I did not face any problems while installing XP or running any applications. Though I haven\’t yet fixed the sound drivers, probably because I did not search for it
. But I believe you can easily install the drivers as the sound hardware in every macbook pro is same, and almost everyone I have heard of , has installed win xp just fine.
Stuffs which I installed and which worked fine..
- Nero 7 Ultra.
- Need for Speed Most Wanted.
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe/Macromedia Dreamweaver.
- Adobe/Macromedia Flash.
P.S: And I could open Photoshop while running NFS MW without a single screen hanging or any such delay.
But right now I am thinking of buying a software called Parallels with which you can run XP/Vista simultaneously with Mac OS X.
Still there are other options such as Virtual Machine which offers the pretty much same features just that parallels may feel a bit user friendly.

I got MBP too recently (Nov’06). Have you had problems of Bowing out of the frame just above opening latch. The gap between the superdrive and top increasing. Anyway, Is your DVD drive region free? I think thats my major problem with Mac. I can’t watch original dvds although pirated run quite well. I have tried all techniques (VLC, Mac the Ripper, etc.) Any key to it?
Cheers!
March 19th, 2007 at 1:45 pm
Well not exactly, I do think there is slight gap between the darker grey strip but thats almost nill.
I did not get you - “DVD drive region free”
I am able to watch all DVD’s without any prob. I just use the installed DVD player or open it through “remote” menu.

Hey Sreejith,
I own a black Mac book, 2 GHz, 2 GB Ram, DVD writer, 80GB HDD. I am kind of bored of it. I seldom use it and i feel as far as software’s are concerned Mac restricts freedom (considering the fact less pirated SW in the market). I am currently running it on Mac Tiger OSX 10.4.11. and the System is quite fast.
I currently own 2 laptops ie Mac Book and an Acer which i bought a month ago.
I particularly don’t use any media tools, so do you feel I should consider selling it. My usage is more web browsing for information and Skype and Google talk. Yeah it’s annoying that Google talk doesn’t work on Mac yet. Please advise. Thanks

Yes I would agree that macbook does not have the “feel good” factor like the pro but I think you can fall in love with it if you try.
I believe there is every kind of software available for mac, have a look at http://opensourcemac.org/ & http://bestmacsoftware.org/. I recommend you wait for some more time try them out.
But yes I agree, that there are not many alternatives for voice chat IM’s except skype & Yahoo!. I hope adium comes up with something.
If you are still going to sell, anytime, can you please mail me the your price expected and the model details.
