Bought it ! Nokia N73 music edition (Review)
Well, I sold my old Nokia 6600 for 4k and got a new N73 music edition 
. I was considering 3 phones - Nokia N73, N95 & Sony Ericsson K800i . The N95 being a bit expensive, I left it for good.
Now, as I’ve been a hard sony ericsson fan all these years, still have my 5 year old T610 with me, I did try to convince myself that k800i was better. But N73 was tempting, especially ’cause of the OS, Symbian S60 3`rd series. the K800i on the other hand comes with a proprietary os i.e i’ll be stuck with the Java softwares. Though I’m not a Symbian freak, I consider Microsoft Windows Mobile / CE better for smart phones.
The 3.2 megapixel cam is nice, and takes good decent pics. The front one is a VGA cam, for video conf. I don’t think anyone would ever use it for anything else. 
The Sound Quality is superb ! I would say it can equal any Sony Ericsson Walkman phone, though my cousin’s SE w550i played some songs/3gp files a bit louder than my N73. But the best part is you can playback around 22 hours continuously through the Headset, unlike any SE which are known to drain Battery fast. It also has the Stereo Widening & Loud Option like in the w550i.
Buying a music edition means 2GB card in the box instead of 512MB, a more clearer screen + 100 songs selected by Nokia.
The html browser should really come in handy, any website can be opened also the ones with javascript. I checked on Sreejith.Net/orkut/Yahoo! which opened quite fast, this would be a pleasing experience for orkut and other Friendship/dating/junk freaks ;). The joystick controls the cute little cursor on screen, which is pretty easy to use.

I got it for 17.8k . I bought it from a mobile shop dealer, here in TVM.
I asked the priority dealer first and they asked 18,800 for it.

here in UK N73 is making problems.. when in talk it suddently switcheing off, and if 2 missed calls comes then it wont accept anymore calls… and so on.. so i prefer sony erricson K 800i for the time being. (even if its finishing is not good)

I think MotoRockr is a Cooler looking phone. But I never liked moto’s user interface. Well thats one this.
I cannot comment on which one is better in terms of music as I have just heard the rockr once.
But I do think Rockr is better in terms of speed as there is a solid reason, its using linux wheras the nokia is using symbian.
So there’s pros n cons. You miss out lot of applications/games etc.
Besides all, if you search google, I don’t think you would honestly find a good review for moto.
but again there ur views and there are mine, depends on which one suits you.
Another facts like 8MB memory for E6 & 40MB for N73. No 3G, Infrared, EDGE
Besides, nokia has a good resale value
. (I sold the my 6600 for 4k whereas I bought it second hand for 3.4k 
)

- good music player.
- total Black Color body.
- dedicated music player button.
- 2GB memory card with the pack.

what a coincidence!!!! i too sold my n6600 for 3.7k and bought n73 ME for 18000 in may ‘07.and that too frm trivandrum. isnt that too much of a coincidence. well wht i wud like to check with you is im unable to delete some of the themes that i have installed on my phone. i could delete some of them but not all. do ya kno why n hw i can delet the themes tht i have installed………
the best part that i like about n73 ME is (apart from 3.2mp camera,2gb memory,sound quality,headset with controls)is the blue light that flashes once it goes to sleep mode. i juz love when it when it blinks in the dark.especially at the cinema…….;-)

You cannot delete the default themes that comes with the phone but to remove the themes you have installed Go to
Menu > Tools > App.mgr. > Go to the theme name > options > Remove.

Hi sree…my requirements in a phone are good music and excellent camera n good looks….i find n73m fitting to my choice…but don’t you think the looks are a little basic…i mean its not flashy…the colour is fine but the keypad????since i have not used it…i need info if typing msgs are tiring..

Well I too think so, keypad is the only thing that leaves it behind, its certainly not for SMS junkies. Especially the “c” key.
Also the joystick is not that good either, its made of slippery metal/paint which cannot be used with a wet hand (of course you wouldn’t use phone with wet hand
)
Talking about keypad’s, people have used the round 3650 keypad
its far better compared to that .

I think still now N73me looks really trendy infront of 5700. 5700 looks toy to me. but this is symbian 9.2 with 128RAM. which means it I’ll work faster than any other Nokia phone.
Now da question is which music/musicplayer is better N73me or 5700 ?

I am not that much familiar with 5700 , just had a look once.
For N73me,
- Better camera with carl zeiss optics camera
- More battery life .
- Dual speakers.
- Has 3.2 MP cam compared to 2 MP in 5700
- Will get 2GB MiniSD card.
For 5700,
- 5700 is definitely faster in terms of OS and application,
- twisting camera is better for Video calling which is better than the bad VGA one in N73,in front (n73 has 2 cams).
- Its the best buy for 12.4k whereas n73 is over 17k.
But with the energy consuming 16 million colors display in 5700 you will not find time to enjoy the 900 mAh battery equiped phone . I love the batery backup of n73

1. You cannot exit the music player in n73 music edition.
2. You have to activate the tracks. You can find the activation code in one of brochures/papers that came within the n73m box.

dude sreejith, ur like coincidence personified. First, i landed up on ur site after a google search for projectW, coz i was depressedly searching for alternatives. Then i realized even ur indian( i’m frm bombay). Then i saw you had reviews for all these fones, and i was zapped! just today, i had the dilemna of choosing between the N95, which i terribly desired, the N73 music, which my parents thought was a cheaper option, in case i lost my cell, and the sony ericson k800i. i was also desperately thinking about the iphone, after reading todays article in DNA, that the IPhone is only going to be available in USA at first, and only licensed to AT&T, so it wont work here, even if bought from the grey market. I was dearly wishing that they could make some agreement with Vodafone, so that Hutch can get us the phone. i absolutely love the huge touch screen, the good music, and the appropriate price.

by the way sreejith, i’m still really confused about which cell i should buy. I am considering 4 main options, but u can suggest any others u know of- N95, N73, Nokia 6233, any of the sony ericcson walkman phones.
I absolutely love the N95, the uber cool music, the FIVE mpx camera, the GPS, the GPRS , the looks,and absolutely everything about it. However, my parents are afraid i might lose it, as it is my first cell phone, so first i should go for some lower-end model. ( i’m a school student in the 9th, btw)
They feel it will be better to settle for a 6233, as it will be a smaller blow if it gets lost. Also then, i will have to buy a digicam, as i was planning to otherwise use the N95 as a substitute, coz of its 5mpx carl zeiss lens.
What do u suggest, should i buy the N95 directly, or should i first go for a simpler one and then decide about a better one?

Ankur, I did not exactly get you ? You mean stretch the wallpaper to cover clock/battery area background ?
You need to apply theme for that. In fact, Try creating one yourself

You can also make N73 themes by using a software available in the pc suite CD given with the mobile.

I’m also a Sony Ericsson fan, but this N73 is an exception in N Series, I dont like the other ones as they are too slow to respond. T610 was my first phone purchased. it was in 2002, presently I own a w700i.

Yup ! What you heard is right. You can read my post for my views. Most sony ericsson Walkman phones have better music playback, but the only reason I left it was the Battery comes no where close to n73.

N73ME was my dream phone. after reading ur review, i purchased one yesterday. i am crazy abt music. but i am very much disappointed with its musci player. its sound(music) is very weak. doeasnt have enough volume. wat to do? compared to SONY ERICSSON(earlier i had a SE W810i), sound clarity is not good.
is there any method to increase the volume? or should i install another MUSIC PLAYER?

I think first you should check with other N73me’s if they have more volume. I believe the default player is the best player the phone has. Apart from that, Divx player will play your movie files at much higher volume but not mp3s.
You can also try to upgrade the formware to N73 Internet edition - http://thenokiablog.com/2006/12/08/how-to-update-nokia-n73-firmware-to-internet-edition/ . Though, try it at your own risk.

it seems very inthusiastic to me. The best look with lots more features.its cool in a sense.
but I m feeling something missing…
1. MP4 runs freezingly (its not smooth in Realplyer)is there any videoplayer exists which supports n73 (I couldnt find out). M having Divxplayer but it only works with AVI. but it needs codec which i dont have.

1. I think real player works fine. The freezing might be because of other programs running simultaneously.
- Using illegal softwares are something which I strongly discourage but some websites (imserba.com) operate illegaly.

I was using Nokia 3230 since 2 years….I got that cell for Rs.13,000/- sold it for just 4,500/-. Whatever I m not bothered about the cost but I had great problem with that set, it use to hang a lot….now I have plans to buy N 73 Music version mobl. i have a w710i, i like it but, sony’s after sales service sucks and am disapointed by it so i am looking for another phone….I have 3 options
1) N73M
2) Motoroker E6
3) Imate Jama
all the three are in pretty much the same price range.
now my requirment is a music phone with business phone utilities and a touch (optional).
could you help me in deciding which phone to go for, 1 am looking at

I have recently bought a n73me and i found it very noisy.It’s sound is not soothing like other nokia ph as 6270. Another prob is wen i download softwares from net it doesn’t open the file in spite of it supports that. the phone is really xellent.good cam and music player also.but sound is not that loud when u hear in headset.also its too noisy when u turn on the stereo videning and loudness(without the headset).
my bro is having 6233.its souds far better.but not that clear as n73.n73 is more stereo voice.
but the problem is in 6233 in the eqiliser if we go and increase the levels in set 1 or set2,the sound just increases alot.but in my phone there is no diffrence can i increase the sound plz help me……………

I bought N73 ME phone a week back, I initially saw many tracks that needed activation code. Later i connected my phone to the PC using USB and copied few tracks after that i couldnot find these tracks also can you let me know how do i activate these tracks i mean how do i get the activation code?

SAR, or Specific Absorption Rate, is the measurement of the Electromagnetic emissions and is weighed at Watts per Kilogram. The maximum limit set by the EU and other countries is set to 2.0W/Kg, and Nokia N73 reaches 1.13W/kg (RM-133) or 0.92W/kg (RM-132).
The difference of the SAR depends on the main PCB of the phone. The PCB with the RM-132 customization is not available in all EU countries. You just have to make sure that you use a Bluetooth or a headset at all times, as you may experience headaches and slight disorientation, as well as slight memory problems if you are a heavy user (ie 1-2 hours on the phone per day or more) and don’t use a headset/handsfree. Considering that Nokia’s N80, and N91 SAR is 0.48-0.67, and the upcoming N95 has a sar value of 0.58, you can understand that the values of 0.92 or even worse the 1.13, are pretty high.

Hello,
i just bought in a N73 Music Edition, its just a supurb cell ti have, great sound & features…
but got a problem, i did add a few music files to it but they are not listed in the Music menu (probably coz i did save them in a new folder on the memory card….) now if i have to play the songs i got to play them by selecting them individually. can you tell me how to add them in the music menu or how to create a play list.
Initially, the video files did not play (especially the files with extension avi, mpg & wmv) now i have installed divx player but still the mpg, wmv & dat files dont play…. which third part software is needed to play this files on my N73m (i have already installed the smart movie player but in vain it does not support any of the formats).
Apart from the above doubts the cell is just great to have….. infact i did recommend this beauty to all my friends..

1. you should refresh da “Music Library” of your phone to play da dowloaded songs.
2. to play vedio make sure your video is 320*240 resulation and da format should be AVI,MP4 for best result. real player doesnt support avi or wmv. Real player is only for MP4 and 3gp.

yeah the n73m is a great phone. symbian os is the best. u can gt a horde of games installed. as the others said the phone would occasionally hang my n73 didn’t even hang for once. just keep the phonre memory free all the time,it wont hang. music player is great,but the speaker is a tad noisy at higher volumes. 3.2 mp camera doesnt handle well in the dark,even in the night mode. video quality is good if u dont zoom in .but the quality is not in the n93 or n95’s league. but things begin to change if there is good light. it handles better than a conventional 3.2 mp camera.the color reproduction is xlnt.

Hey sreejith… the N73ME is indeed an amazing phone. Can you direct me as to where i can download the latest firmware. Also, I have a small problem with the phone.
My phone memory showed full even when all my stuff was stored in the memory card. One of my friends said that the messages gets stored somewhere else even after you delete them. I had to format my phone to set it right. Any idea? help!

Can you please specify which theme in N73 would give me the flexibility to stretch the wallpaper to cover the WHOLE screen…

I don’t think any theme gives you the ability to stretch new wallpapers . But you can try creating a new theme yourself with the wallpaper you like which will cover the whole screen.

You can also make N73 themes by using a software available in the pc suite CD given with the mobile.

Can you please tell me if its possible to emulate the installation of N73 applications on a PC.
So that before installing any application on a mobile, we could check it on a PC with simulation of moblie.

It might be “a bit” slower but I don’t think it hangs that much. It just hanged once since I bought it, that too with 4 applications open, and which went alright after 5 minutes.
Its basically OS and the memory you have. You don’t expect to run new gen. games on a PI processor with 64MB RAM, do you ? Its the same thing here.

since i bought nokia73m very next,it the moblie was warm and some acidic must have or something else i amnot sur, but keeping in hands for sometime i got boil in my hands,

Atlast I bought N73 Musiq…..I liked everything in it but I m not satisfied with the Video clarity. You can’t compare it with the Nokia 6280….(Being just 2 mega pixels it does have a great video shot, as gud as an handy camp.
I was an impression that N73 M being 3.2 mega pixels will be more clear but i was wrong.
Sreejith is there any solution for this problem….??

Hello there !!
I have a prob with my N73 ME and it came up by itself. the prob is that the whenever a New Message is recieved, no icon is shown on the main screen, neither the tone is played nor vibration is made for the alert, just a start is displayed on the inbox folder showing that a new message is recieved and i have to c that again and again if there’s any new message or not. It was working very fine previously and i have used it for like just 2 months now.
the thing which bothers me is that howcome it happened by itself coz i didnt install anything or shared anything which wud coz some file to get corrupted or something like that.
Can anybody plz help me out and tell me what to do coz its really irritating when u get a msg and no alert is made.

I am user of Nokia N73ME I have a question about volume level of Music Player. If I am listning Music in earphone the volume is not very much loud but at the time of listning music if I make a call to any number after connecting the call the Music volume is increase and the sound is very much louder but after discontiuation of call the volumer level down automitically as per previous stage that means very low. Why it is happen please tell me if you have any idea about it please send my reply. One another thing just I hear, a code no. is available for increase the sound of MP3 it is fact or rumour.

I am plannin 2 gt a new phone and am torn apart b/w the N73M and the 5700…..both seem to be excellant phoness…..but a friend of min who’s usin an N73M told me that he experiances a loot of problems…the phone hangs a lot…..restarts unexpectedly…..and crashes quite often…also the responses are veryy slow….he asked me to check up with someone else b4 i make a decision…would u suggest The n73m…n73…..or the 5700….?????

The activation code for the N73 mobile comes along with the pack at the time of purchase . this code will be in a post card like sheet with Nokia color brand printed on it. also the activation code is common for N73/N85/N90. Jus contact ur nearest Nokia help line for more details.

N73 does not have a2dp but if you want it just update it latest firmware. Its already confirmed all over internet that new V4.xxx of N73 support A2DP and should also be AVRCP.

@sid - IE is better than ME , The basic difference are the sound clarity which is better in Internet Edition and the Music player button is replaced by the Internet Browser Button.

i purchased N73me but i m not satisfied with this because its voice recorder records only one minute voice clip its useless it should record voice depend on the user requirement.

Well i have joined the N37 ME users community…i bought my N73 ME a week back…
I basically bought it for its music and m also a nokia fan…
The problem is dat the sound/music quality is not up to the mark…meaning i have a trascend player with me wherein i use sony headsets…with transcend the surround sound is awesome but it lacked the base…
But when i compare the music quality of transcend with my N73 ME…i m a bit unsatisfied…Bcoz there is some sort of disturbance in background…i dont know the reason for it but what i feel is the format of the song that is playing tricks over here…
Can any body help me with the format to use to get the best music output…i have already used AAC, eAAC+ amd MP3…of which AAC was better…still there is that disturbance that is pinching me…
Plz can anybody suggest a converter (I used the latest Nokia Music Manager)…
The conversion from 128 kbps MP3 format to—>AAC at what Bitrate will be better (128 or 164)…Plz Plz i need ur help

I purchased Nokia N73 Music edition. I regret doing this and I’ll bargain returning it to the dealer, since it has too many problems, most of all:
1. It switches off sometimes as much as 10 times a day and requires 2 whole minutes to function again.
2. It can only record 1 single minute (one) that’s right, and that is independent of the size of memory card. You can purchase an unlocking software for extra $39, but what the hell Nokia thought. To rape the buyers!!!
3. It is quite slow in functioning. Since it’s among the first to use a software OS, it is slower than windows on slow computers. You wait and wait and wait when you switch between applications. Very annoying.
4. The PC Suit Synch function is very novice and primitive and doesn’t answer today’s requirements. For example, if you have any Business 2 phone, some special titles infos inside your Phone address book, it doesn’t transfer them as they are, but renames them into other and you’ll need to manually update them. Usually without being able to change the other title in Outlook. In my case, I have over 1500 contacts, you can imagine that I need over a day just to update the information of almost the most modern Nokia Phone. What is going on Nokia?
5. It is impossible to turn off the light sensor that blinks at night continuously. I couldn’t sleep with it blinking, so I turn the phone upside-down to prevent this sirene light from disturbing me. What happened to human friendly phone designers of Nokia for God’s sake?
6. The bluetooth connection shows certain incompatibilities with certain devices, such as with my IBM laptop.
7. Although the stereo hands-free loudspeakers are nice, but when driving a noisy car, they are nearly useless. Not loud enough!
8. I had a Nokia 7650 before buying this device. I could call from anywhere in my office without worrying about connection quality. With N73, I’m restricted to a certain area, where I can have a little reception, enough to make low-quality calls. This phone doesn’t have good reception, not as half as of other versions. Those among you living in bad reception areas; DO NOT BUY THIS Phone!!!
I admire the long life of its battery as the only real advantage I can think of.
Still, I will return the phone and look for a better one. Surely not the N95, since it has too short battery-life.

I recently bought N73ME where in i got one additional headset apart from the default earphone.
Along with two cables of 3.5 jack and one 2.5 jack but i dont know which one to use(one 3.5 jack has 3 insulated stripes on both side of the pin & other has 2 insulated stripes on one side of the pin)
And is it possible to create our own album where in we can add the songs from the system to that album bcos i tranfered songs from my system to mobile creating different folders but now i am seeing all the songs scatterd and its not in proper order in the music player

menu-music-all songs-options-album arts-options-change-select graphic download-options-exit.
now it will be closed.but still by pressing the music key u will be able to get now playing track…..

I am new to this website, i have installed theme but after sometime the theme is disappeared from the theme list and when i try to reinstall the same, it comes up saying “unable to install”. Do you guys have the same problem????

3 Mushi,sreejith am also holding a N73. I have downloaded smart movie in my PC. I copied its set up file and pasted in my mobile via data cable. But i can’t install it in my mobile. Its shows unable to open the file. can you pls asy how can i install in my mobile??

u cant make wallpaper fullscreen in n73, de upper n lower portions wont fill.
u ve to make themes using 3rd party s/w wit de new wallpaper..
call recordin is limited to 1 min in n73, can record endleslly by using 3rd party s/w

hello ,, dosto . i buy new nokia n73 m.
it is great phone .. with great battery life,
and its music is nice .. and auto focus 3.2 camera just rocking,,
i have no problem with it.. no hang problem with nokia n73m mobile .. its best mobile. it gives you every thing that you want in your mobile .like—– music , 2gb m card, 3.2 magapixel camera.. cool battery life upto 9 hrs…
what you want more .. go .and buy it …

I own a N73 normal, which i bought in Oct, 2007.
I found ur site from Google.
Boss !! Its a vry active place to be on this topic. Felt vry comfortable on ur site, with all the reviews, queries & solutions.
People believe me the phone is really good at what it is made for & the reviews above are supportive enough for tht.
One gets a vry ROYAL feel whn people see u holding it.
As compared to other mobiles - camera clarity 1 of the best, headphone sound quality good, speaker sound quality good & loud enough, screen clarity good enough, Nokia menus-really user friendly, battery 1 of the best, etc, etc.
Friends u will not get something at this price as compared to any other companies.
Well the idea was to search for a solution as my N73 “hangs 4 shorter periods bt, vry often”.
Evrything ws jus heaven with this phone. Bt, my ordeal started 1 month back, vry often it just hangs for 5 to 10 secs, while doing any activity. Mainly at the time of accessing anything like Music, calendar, messages, contacts, while browsing the pics in gallery, etc.
Whn the problem started the phone also used to switch off 2 / 3 times a day. Dont knw how bt, that stopped aftr 2 weeks.
I hv a 512 memory provided with the set, use no games, hv more thn 70 songs, few clips, more thn 100 photos, 2/3 themes, etc. An average 100 mb free at all times.
Mean I am a average user bt, cant understand why the phone hangs with such basic structure. Its vry annoying sometimes.
I dont blame it on space availability. Hv been using PC’s for the past 15 yrs bt, u somehow will feel this is not a space issue (u can see my usage).
Mayb its a base issue bcoz of the OS as many N series phones hang as heard from many people & on the net.
Well I m a fan of this phone & do not want to degrade it. Bt, felt the things to b known to othr people.
Still people wud tell u 2 alwys gv it a try.
Solution 2 the ‘hang event’ alwys welcome.

Can anyone tells me how could I increase the loudness of my handset N73 music edition ? And also please let me know where could I download GPS software ? I have downloaded one from Nokia site but when tried to install it, showing update error.
