Looking for a laptop

I am thinking of buying a lappy. Right now I only have 2 choices so I would like some suggestions from you Geeks :D . I am looking into Dell Inspironâ„¢ 6400 and HP Pavilion dv5100 series . Nemi suggested me to go for Dell 6400 as it can be upgraded anytime into a much powerfull system but I have a strong reason to go for soura’s suggestion, HP dv5100 as it has almost everything that I need for a much cheaper price. But still, you never know what might come into your hands ;) .

My Budget is 75,000 INR (1704 USD) and I need the usual things with good battery life. WiFi, DVD-RW, Bluetooth….. I dont mind if its a bit bulky as I dont roam that much. A link to the suggestion would be appreciated :D .

So, What say ?

Why not try lenovo (IBM)? I guess they have come up with some good ones recently…

  2. Jeevan says:

Why don’t you try the new Yahoo! Tech - http://tech.yahoo.com/

I do believe it was I who suggested the 6400 to you :P

Anyway, I’ll stick with my choice. Just for the record, remember that whatever upgrades you want on the base system need to made when you place the order. Don’t count on being able to upgrade a few months after getting the laptop. Very few laptop components are upgradeable. So buy the best within your budget - that will last you a long time. :)

dude go for dv 5100 its the most complete laptop available in India below 70k. its config is cheaper than a similar one from dell.
Plus comes with a remote control and headphones :D
bought it last week only.. extremely satisfied as of now.. :D

Try acer laptops. Also bear in mind that spare parts might not be easily available.
    Take a look at Acer Aspire 1691. abt 45K i believe :)

    How about buying a VAIO?
    SONY FS840/W Centrino 1.73GHz; 15.4″WXGA XBrite; 512MB; 100GB; DVD-RW, 802.11b/g, XP Home, 6.3lbs
1300$ + taxes 3 months back (must have come down). It is a bit bulky, otherwise really good (till now)

    Thanks,

Why not get a macbook pro and run both windows xp and MacOS X =]

  9. Sreejith says:

Thanks to all of you for the suggestions, but still I don’t have anythig better than HP dv5100 series :/ .

Anish, Sony Vaio is great but if you compare the features with HP its not even close.

Eg0iStE, That is something amazing but the same model costs lot more here. :(

Its absolutely amazing, and now you can run Windows on it as well :) So there is no reason not to get this awesome piece of hardware!

    Good Luck!

I love my Dell Inspiron 6000. The E1505 is an upgrade to that. and it’s cheap. Great system. I have used the hp business models and they were really good too. Two good choices.

Hi stumbled across your site looking for data on the DV5118.Nice to know many people in similar predicamanets :)

Yes,the sum of the matter is that the 5118 is the best out there .Look at the 1 GB Ram,100 gig disk and 15.4” screen. My only concern is the weight,as I travel a lot…
Better to get the additional 2 yr global warranty for 6500 Rs. It saves you a apcket later on as any part which conks, costs at least 6k.

I am getting the laptop for 67k all inclusive plus extra for the warranty.

Also theres a lower speced DV1624 model which has a built in webcam and 512 ram,80 gig disk. But the 5118 has the 1 gb/100 gig and nvidia combi…decisions, decisions…

Am about to finalise in a day or two :)

    Happy hunting

Hi…came here looking around for 5118tx. I am also in the same dilemma of choosing between the Inspiron 6400 and the dv5118TX. But if you compare the specs HP is clearly the winner. Also remember that the Dell does not come with a media card reader which is nowadays an imp accessory if you wish to transfer data from memory cards easily.

Hp 5100 series or Sony viaos within the 70,000 range ? HP’s config and features are way better. But Ive heard sony has got alot of other features like build quality and all which really beats Hp in those angles. Is that true or is Sony just exp bcuz of its brand. Is Hp long lasting ?
