SEO = Selfishness !
Seriously it is
! From the time I began to read articles or do SEO for my website’s, my thoughts have changed a lot. If a guy asks me to link to his site I hesitate, even if he is my good friend,
Say a guy know about a nice usefull website but he doesn’t feel that good linking to it , he adds tracker to the link or remove the hyperlink itself or add “nofollow” tag just because he don’t want to increase the other guy’s Google PR
.
Recently a group of people from Seochat forums left the forum because they added “nofollow” tags to links in the user sigs, may be DevShed needed to increase the their rankning
.
People used to link to sites because they liked it, but now they link if they have certain PR (ranking) and linkback to them
. I do think that Google’s PR is creating a competetive mentality in webmasters.
On the other hand one can’t be blamed entirely too. Webmaster do all the hard work , link building, SEO, pay for ads and what not for a good ranking. obviously they should get a price to link from their website.
Hmm, what do you think ?

Actually I quite agree with you and on the other side people are being aware that there is something called as PR and it helps the sites..
So sometimes more of awareness makes people selfish..

Hey Sree.. cool skin there .. great work
… I do understand and agree with you on the mentality created by google :P. But I personally add the links to all my friends. Also I plainly reject if someone requests me to add his/her link to my blogroll in return . I really don’t understand the term ‘link exchange’ pretty common with people. Blogroll is meant to add the blogs of people you visit and not to increase your and others PR.

Search Engine Optimisation isn’t about just having people link to your site. You need good content to get good results, if the content is good/useful then chances are people will find it and link to it anyway.

Hmm… I link to all my friends too .. What I believe is that if your site have nice content, others will link to your site themselves .. You wont have to “request” them to link to your site ..
